Monkfish Market started with a pretty simple idea: buy great stuff, give it a new home, and make the whole process a bit more enjoyable.
We launched online in June 2026, starting out by buying and selling the kind of things we genuinely enjoy finding, video games, consoles, collectibles, cameras, vinyl, football shirts, pop culture items and plenty of random bits and pieces along the way.
What started small grew much quicker than we expected.
Before long, Monkfish Market had become a busy online business, with hundreds of items finding new homes and customers coming back for more. And that's when we started thinking...
Why stop online?
From online to the high street
We've always loved the excitement of finding something you didn't even know you were looking for.
That feeling when you spot an old console you've not seen since you were a kid.
A game you haven't played in 20 years.
A camera that brings back memories.
A football shirt from your favourite era.
Or simply something completely random that you absolutely have to own.
We wanted to create somewhere that captured that feeling.
So on 19 October 2026, Monkfish Market is taking the next step and opening our first physical shop in Thorne.
The shop gives us somewhere to meet customers face-to-face, showcase some of the things we find, and perhaps most importantly buy more stuff!
What do we sell?
The short answer is: quite a lot.
Video games and consoles are a big part of what we do, but that's only the beginning.

One of the biggest parts of our business is finding great items that people no longer want or need.
Maybe you've got a games collection gathering dust.
Perhaps you've inherited a box of old electronics.
Maybe there's a cupboard full of CDs, a loft full of collectibles or a console sitting in the spare room that hasn't been switched on for years.

We're not trying to be the biggest retailer around.
We're a small independent business, and that's exactly how we want to stay.
We want Monkfish Market to be somewhere you can come in, have a look around, ask a question, find something cool and hopefully leave with a smile.
We care about what we buy, we care about what we sell and we want people to feel that they're getting a fair deal.

The shop is the next chapter, not the end of the story.
We'll continue growing our online business, adding new stock to the website and eBay, buying locally and looking for interesting ways to bring Monkfish Market to more people.
We're also keen to become part of the local community in Thorne — supporting local organisations, working with other independent businesses and getting involved wherever we can.
Most importantly, we'll keep doing what got us here in the first place:
Finding good stuff.
Giving it another life.
And having a bit of fun along the way.
